Two California Men Charged With Illegally Exporting AI Chips to China
Federal prosecutors have charged two Chinese nationals, Chuan Geng and Shiwei Yang, with conspiring to violate U.S. export controls by shipping high-performance AI chips to China. The defendants allegedly routed restricted GPUs through Southeast Asia to conceal their final destination, operating under their company, ALX Solutions Inc.
The case underscores escalating tensions over technology transfers between the U.S. and China. Both men face up to 20 years in prison if convicted, with Yang additionally accused of violating immigration laws. The charges follow tightened Commerce Department restrictions on advanced microchip exports to China.
